Seun Kuti is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Fela Kuti who is considered one of the most important African artists of all time. He has devoted most of his life to preserving and furthering his father's musical and political legacy as the leader of Fela's former band, Egypt 80. Born in 1983, Seun showed interest in his father's music as early as the age of five. At the age of nine, he began opening Fela's concerts by singing selected songs with Egypt 80 before Fela Kuti himself took the stage.
As an emerging saxophonist and percussionist, Seun became a full member of the band before he turned twelve. When his father passed away in 1997, Seun took over leadership of Egypt 80 in accordance with his father's wishes, and has continued to lead the band ever since. During his teenage years, Seun juggled between the band's tours and his schooling. At the age of 18, he dedicated himself entirely to music. Seun Kuti's concerts have always been a mix of Fela's songs and his own works.
